There are SO many signs of spring!

Cardinals singing their mating calls; the sounds of honking Canadian geese flying north; colorful waterfowl in nearly every backwater area; increased arrivals of bald eagles sitting in trees along the river; and the unique calls of Sand Hill Cranes as they look for areas to nest. These are just a few of the sights and sounds of spring!

You know that when the Raptor’s Resource Center's live webcam
(http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles) of the eagle’s nest in nearby Decorah becomes active again spring is near.

As far as Midwest winters go, this past one has been a welcomed mild one. However, it’s still refreshing to have warmer days, increased daylight hours and trees beginning to bud. I also watch with anticipation as seasonal businesses prepare to open for the year.

After being “cooped” up all winter we seem to “rush” and maybe “overdue” our desire to be outside doing spring chores. It’s as if we wrongly think this nice weather will never last.

I’m guilty of that. It seems that every spring I have an urge to work sunrise to sunset forgetting that we have up to seven months of wonderful weather ahead. However, after some persistent lecturing from my wife, on such days, I have decided to call it quits at least by 1 p.m. and spend the rest of the day enjoying what the Lansing area has to offer.

If there was ever a time to sightsee around the Lansing area this is it! The site of the first tows coming up river and the multi shades of green in the river bottoms and along the bluffs in April and May are breathtaking!

It may be an old cliché’ but as they say this is the time to “smell the
flowers” and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us!
